FOLK SOUL REVIVAL

Being based out of the Appalachians, with its rich, and traditional musical heritage, has helped to shape and define the sound of FOLK SOUL REVIVAL, but not entirely. Each of the individual musicians bring some of their own, unique and personal influences to the group and as a result the music is a fresh amalgamation of what Americana music should be.

Banjoist and songwriter Justin "Vinny" Venable, who has been playing in the Wise county area for several years (including a stint with Allun Cormier) is probably the most traditional as far as musical tastes. His love of Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and the rich sounds of early Appalachian roots music are all evident through his songwriting and musicianship. Justin also acts as figurehead for the band's live stage outings- often times addressing the crowd with a witter banter and good ole' southern hospitality.

Jordan Bledsoe, who plays mandolin, as well as crafts songs for the group has been playing on stage for half a decade or so. He and Vinny shared a stage together as a duo for many years. The influence of Jack Johnson's, Ben Harper's and Citizen Cope's music are all very evident in his instrumental and vocal contributions. He is a vital part to the sound and texture of FOLK SOUL REVIVAL's music.

Upright bassist Brandon Sturgill is the newcomer to the stage. He started his career a little over a year ago as part of a trio called "Acoustic Persuasion".  He is an adamant, and learned musician, with a great ability to squeeze the essence out of his instrument and has a dogmatic taste for perfection.

Guitarist, singer, and principle songwriter Daniel Davis made his onstage debut a little over two years ago. He started as a solo performer, practicing his craft and getting comfortable in that role. His soulful voice and keen ability to compose a song make him a pivotal piece in this musical puzzle. His influences are as diverse as the songs he writes.

Blind Melon, Jim Croce and Van Morrison are as likely to be heard blaring from his stereo as are songs from Dr. Hook, Bruce Springsteen and the Avett Brothers. Together, these four musicians are a crowd pleasing reminder of what live music is all about. Their ability to perform toe tapping- jugband type jams, touching ballads about love and loss, traditional folk type songs, and the occasional unique take on some long forgotten classic Top 40 hit are what keeps the seats filled, and the show goers smiling.
